Delicious detours in lisbon

Sometimes life takes the most deliciously unexpected detours.

And not that traveling abroad for a year to some of the sexiest cities in the most desirable countries needs a detour or isn’t quite tasty in itself. #BlessedBeyondMeasure

But saying ‘Yes’ to a detour from your planned tour can have a side effect of introducing you to a part of yourself you may have forgotten. It can provide breakthroughs to wounds you thought were long healed. And it can open you up to the most vulnerable and tender ‘You’ that seemed long dormant.

This all can only be achieved when you bare your naked soul amidst the energy of a detour awash in spiritual connectivity. Not only a connectedness to the place and the people of your detour… But to your deepest spiritual self.

This detour led me to a place only 35 minutes from Lisbon called Colares… A microclimate village near the enchanted town of Sintra.

Colares in itself holds an enchanted energy with spiritual awakenings being a norm amongst the green jungle where natural springs flow and windy roads curve.

At the foot of the Sintra mountains and very close to the sea, Colares provides a refuge to the bigness of Lisbon.

In the environs of Colares are the beaches of Praia das Maças, Praia Grande and Adraga, and the typical village of Azenhas do Mar, with its whitewashed houses inset in the side of a cliff.

I was fortunate to stay in one such guest home, with a German host, a black cat and, well… Early morning swims. Mid morning naps. Late afternoon surf sessions with neighbors and dogs. Early evening walks around the garden. And sunsets that set a tone for the rest of the evening…

I’m fully nourished.

My soul.

My mind.

My spirit.

And now…Another unexpected detour..

Back to… Viva la Itália!
